Picture Books to Encourage Good Behaviour

Teaching and encouraging our children to behave well are some of the greatest lifelong gifts we can give to them.

Behaviour Matters is a series of beautifully-illustrated picture books which use fun stories to encourage good behaviour in children.

Little Rhino Learns to Be Polite -A book about good manners

Rhino is well known for being rude . His school friends have experienced this first hand!!

He has pushed Giraffe over in the playground without saying sorry,

He’s also known for speaking with his mouth full and and thinks it’s funny to burp out loud!

..and that is just the start!!

He starts to think about his poor manners after all his friends have been invited to tea at Lion’s house.

What would it take for Rhino to learn some good manners?

Would he ever be invited for tea at Lion’s house?

This story gives children the opportunity to explore the importance of good manners and being considerate to others.

Hippo Owns up -A book about telling the truth

Hippo is having very bad day.

He was late for school after waking up late and he missed breakfast.

Misses Croc gave Hippo lots of sums to do but he was just too tired to do them.

In-fact, he was just too hungry to do anything.

Hippo got some loud hiccups which disturbed the whole class and Mrs Croc asked him to go to the kitchen to get a drink of water.

Hippo spots a chocolate cake in the kitchen.

It looked and smelt DELICIOUS!!

He picked up a spoon to try a little bit of the cake and it was in deed DELICIOUS!!

He tried to smooth over the hole he made with the spoon…but he just made it look worse!

The more he tried to fix the cake, the worse it looked.

He ended up eating the entire cake!!

Would he own up to eating the cake or would he let someone take the blame?

This story gives children the opportunity to explore telling the truth and how blaming others is unfair.

Lion’s in a Flap -A book about feeling worried

Lion worries about almost everything.

He worries about being late for school.

He worries about being early for school , he even worries about getting all his sums right and he is good at sums.

Sometimes, when he gets in a flap, he feels hot and dizzy and his tummy quivers.

Lion will be going on a school trip to ‘Jungle Land’, the most exciting theme park ever!!

The day before the trip, he worries about it raining and flooding the park. He got in such a flap that he knock paint all over Hippo’s painting!

Monkey and Hippo are all worried about Lion.

They asked him if he was alright but Lion did not tell them that he was worried about the trip.

He thought that they would laugh at him.

This story gives children the opportunity to explore what makes people feel worried and how to cope when they or a friend get anxious.

Giraffe is Left Out – A book about feeling bullied

It’s Monday, Leopard’s first day at school Jungle school.

Miss Bird asks him to sit with Monkey, Little Lion and Giraffe hoping that they could become friends.

Monkey and Little Lion made Leopard feel welcome but Giraffe was cross.

He did not want to make Leopard feel welcome or be his friend.

On Tuesday, Leopard came to school very excited . He had invitations to his birthday party on Saturday for everyone. Everyone except Giraffe who has been unkind to him.

Giraffe was feeling very sad.

Is there anything he could do to make up of for his unkind behaviour to Leopard?
